Captain Nathan Hale Bridger

Nathan Bridger designed seaQuest, then walked away from the military after the death of his son, retreating to a remote island with his research and his grief. Coaxed back aboard the boat he built, he became the moral center of the series: a captain more interested in exploring the ocean than patrolling it, and a surrogate father to Lucas Wolenczak.

Roy Scheider, already a screen legend from Jaws and The French Connection, gave the show its gravitas. He departed as a regular after season two, returning for guest appearances in seaQuest 2032.
